Sunderland Students\' Blueprint Success

A NEW business, which plans to revolutionise dining with multimedia menus, has won a pres¬tigious North East business award. Mahmoud Elsaid and Husam Ramadhan won the Blueprint Business Planning Competition 2010, presented at the National Glass Centre in Sunderland. Their company Lamasatech allows diners to order meals, play games, listen to music and communicate at their restaurant table. Mahmoud and Husam were awarded the £3,000 David Goldman Scholarship to further their ground-breaking business idea. Lamasatech also won the Sunderland City Coun-cil Software and Technology Award. Students, graduates and staff from the University of Sunderland gathered at the National Glass Centre for the annual awards which have already helped create dozens of new businesses. The competition is organised by University of Sunderland and sponsored by Sunderland City Council and Blueprint. It aims to provide a launch pad for start-up businesses emerging in the city. The winners of the Sunderland competition will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of the' previous year's winners at the grand final for. winners form the region's five universities. Sunderland graduates Helmut Okike (Campus Games) and Chris Bushell (Bike Hire UK) scooped the winner and runner-up prizes at the Regional Blueprint Grand Final last October. At the regional grand final the winner and runner-up from each of the five regional' universities compete for a generous share of cash and in-kind support prizes.
