Zeph Renewable Technologies
The business will be set up as a spin-out company from the School of Engineering at Durham University and will develop an innovative 20kW vertical axis wind turbine in collaboration with a partner company. The turbine’s power rating will make it suitable for the light commercial sector which includes business and retail parks, office blocks and farms.
Development of the prototype turbine will be jointly shared by the School of Engineering at Durham, who will undertake the R&D work, and a partner company, Carbon Concepts, who will build the prototype turbine. The prototype turbine will be erected at the New and Renewable Energy Centre (NaREC) at Blyth where it will be tested.
The business will initially concentrate on the UK market, focusing on large corporations such as Tesco’s, Sainsbury’s and Halifax, as these organizations have already erected small-scale wind turbines on their sites. The company founders wish to develop a profitable business with associated high value IP which can be sold as a going concern within 5 years.
